Playgirl Magazine Star Gives Personal Branding Advice - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Playgirl Magazine Star Gives Personal Branding Advice - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke with Madison Hildebrand, who is a playboy, millionaire real estate mogul, author and much more.   Madison explores various topics from a very unique angle, including passion, perception and of course, brand.   We can learn a lot from someone who has been in the public eye in ways that Madison has, yet still remain true to ourselves and our own special personal brand. What are some triggers that might help someone activate their own passion?   What might help deactivate it? Your passion should spark excitement. It begins with accepting what makes you feel good.   Fear, on the other hand, can deactivate it.   Or complacency with routine. How were you able to build your brand, from real-estate to reality TV and now a book?   What lessons have you learned along the way and whats next for you? Building my brand started with a certain high-end image. Everything with my name on it had to carry a certain brand image, including the car I drove and the clothes I wore.   Next, my integrity is the foundation to my brand.   My book and my appearance on reality TV are honest and real.   That image was important to me. If someone Googles your name, the second result is your MySpace page.   Your page contains pictures of you in Playgirl Magazine amongst others.   Between everything else you do, has this had a positive or negative impact on your personal brand? (Smile).   Well, even my appearance in Playgirl Magazine was as tasteful as possible, given the publication.   Having my sexuality exploited on Million Dollar Listing allowed me to have a little fun with this photo shoot as well.   I think there may have been a few people who were offended by my photos, but they should not look if they dont want to make a judgment.   We all live once, I have no regrets, life is too short not to have a little frisky business here and there. What are your five essential principles to finding your passion? The five essential principles to finding your passion begin with yourself. 1) Make a list of the things you love to do. Then write next to each of those why you love to do those things.   Look for similarities and try to draw some conclusions.   2) Next, ignore negative people and attitudes.   Focus only on what is coming from within your body and mind. 3) Third, dont define failure.   If you dont have a definition of failure, then there is nothing to fear. 4) Fourth, seek out positive situations and opportunities that may be connected with your passion(s). 5) Lastly, persevere and DO your passion.   Make it happen and be ready for change. How do you go about forming your own mission statement?   Why is it important? Think of your mission statement as your identity. It is critical to write it down so you know what makes your brand different from others.   It should encompass all aspects of your life, beliefs, and characteristics.   It should portray who you are and who you would like to become. Madison Hildebrand is the author of Activate YOUR Passion, Create YOUR Career: No matter who you are.   He is achieving extraordinary goals in record-breaking time. Hildebrand, star of Bravos hit reality series Million Dollar Listing, is Malibus most wanted real estate mogul. Over the past 30 months, Hildebrand has sold over 80 million dollars in celebrity real estate earning him the self-proclaimed title King of Malibu and has been recognized in the top 2% of agents in the Coldwell Banker International family as well as recently earning the title of Top Producing New Agent at the Coldwell Banker Malibu West Office.

Is procrastination incapacitating your career - Hire Imaging

Is procrastination incapacitating your career - Hire Imaging The people I help with job search or career management are bright folks! When they are contemplating change, no vision is too great; no dream is too big. Self-reflection and self-assessment can truly be a life metamorphosis. I really love having the privilege of working with my diverse and wonderful clients as they dig deep into what makes them tick. Where might that fit be? And then the big P word occursâ€"not uncommon. Procrastination hampers the “go get it” phase. Are you stuck in Procrastination mode? While insight into your purpose, values and goals is essential to move toward career success as you’ve defined it, insight without action is little help. It’s scary to ignite changeâ€"to call people you don’t know and ask for help; to ask for a raise; to be the first to step in and resolve workplace conflict. Most of my clients have experienced fear, apprehension, doubt, anxiety and confusionâ€"sometimes all in this emotional suite. Taking risks and exploring options is scary stuff. But procrastination is self-sabotage at its finest. Negative thoughts foster disabling actions. And then what happens? Nothing. Exactly my point! I’ve used the mnemonic BARAT with clients to help them get unstuck from paralyzing procrastination. I hope it can help you get from the thinking and planning stages to the doing stage! BARAT B = Take Baby Steps Start with a specific goal rather than a large-scale goal. “I will call Jack Frost, the lead given me by Tom today. Tom said Wednesday mornings are best, so I’ll call Jack at 10:00 a.m. I know Tom has given Jack a heads up, so I’ll be prepared with my positioning statement.” This will serve you much better than “I will make 10 networking calls on Wednesday” or even more globally, “I will make 30 calls this week.” Psychologists call this “chunking”. You split concepts into small pieces or “chunks” of informationâ€"in this case your to-do lists or action plans. My client Joan had a delightful way of visualizing the process that I love! She said, “I think of coming face to face with a big rock right in front of the opening I need to cross to reach my goal. I take a pick and chip away. Each task is a chunk coming off bit by bit. And finally, that rock is down to a pebble and I walk through!” A = Act Right Now Inertia breeds inertia. Do something! One small step is better than no step. I love the mantra, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Take that first single step. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve awakened at 4:30 a.m. not wanting to venture out into the elements and traffic to exercise at my health club. My change of attitude happens way before I get to class. It typically flows over me as I hop in the car and pop one of my favorite CDs in the slot! This morning I was coaching my client Jamey. She has struggled with procrastination in the course of our work together. Last Thursday, she took the “Act” to heart and decided enough was enough. Her one act was to set up a LinkedIn account and start learning its power. She made 32 connections and through one of them, had a networking coffee, which generated some leads. Ahhhh!! R = Record Your Goals Thinking about your goals is important. But they can fly right out of your brain into thin air if not written down. Putting your goals on paper or recording them on whatever computer or mobile device you refer to, will give them substance and give you something to look forward to. And don’t make logging your goals   into a major stressor because you might not accomplish them all. The very act of recording and re-evaluating helps you move forward. A = Are Your Goals Attainable? Is your goal rational and reachable? Have you done your homework to make sure it’s feasible before diving head first? My client Joe had his heart set on obtaining quality assurance jobs in manufacturing where the clear pattern for criteria included Six Sigma credentials. When he researched the ramifications of obtaining the trainingâ€"costs, time, etc., he realized he did not have the time nor finances (six kids keeping him hopping, a wife battling cancer and two kids in college) to do it in the original timeframe he had hoped for. While this type of realization can obviously be disappointing, it also helps you reevaluate what steps and action you CAN take. Elimination is another way of making choices. Joe shifted his energy into staying in his current position with its very good healthcare package. His goalsâ€"and action, morphed into that which kept him on the radar at work to make a near-future proposal for a raise. T = Analyze the Time If your goal is recorded but out there floating so to speak, how will you plan to achieve it? Write down your Goals “Needs” List. Write down why they’re important and order them. Then, honestly assess each goal to figure out a timeline. Some goals are short range. Picking up that phone to call that lead on a Wednesday morning is the former; Joe’s decision to obtain Six Sigma down the line (if he chooses to), is long-term. Know the difference and plan accordingly. If you want to find a new position or make changes in your current job, stop beating yourself up if you’ve been procrastinating. That’s just another procrastination symptom. It delays things. Go take that one step, do that one thing. What’s the worst that can happen? I can tell you one thing. If you do nothing, nothing will happen. Photo: hang_in_there

15 Things Happy People Do Differently - Career Advice Blog for Millennials

15 Things Happy People Do Differently - Career Advice Blog for Millennials Guru and self-help experts peddle their own keys to happiness, but there’s no big secret or easy fix to finding satisfaction in life. What does exist are many insights into human happiness found by researchers over the past decades. It turns out that happy people do things differently than others. Fortunately, these habits and traits can be picked up for yourself. Here are fifteen things happy people do: They Don’t Value Money Over Everything Else Everyone knows the saying that “money doesn’t buy happiness,” but that’s not necessarily true. Financial security makes everyone happier, as does making a decent salary that allows for occasional luxuries. There is a limit to just how much happiness can be bought, however, as researchers from Princeton University discovered. The closer someone’s salary is to $75,000, the happier they are. Once they go over that cap, they don’t gain any more satisfaction in their day-to-day life. That goes to show it’s possible to have a fulfilling career without focusing solely on getting a raise or big bonus. Happy people know to value things aside from money, as there are diminishing returns when it comes to making lots of it. They Surround Themselves With the Right People The most content people often surround themselves with like-minded individuals while cutting out the negative people. It’s not an easy thing to let go of a friend, but if they bring you down or hold you back, it’s a necessary action if you want to be happier. Why is being around happy people important? Every positive person in a network causes a ripple effect that makes his or her contacts happier. That’s what researchers at Harvard Medical School found after looking at 20 years of data from 5,000 people. “We’ve found that your emotional state may depend on the emotional experiences of people you don’t even know, who are two to three degrees removed from you,” said professor  Nicholas Christakis, who co-authored the study. They Know How to Smile There are many ways to handle a stressful situation. It turns out that forcing a smile â€" whether it’s genuine or not â€" reduces stress, lowers heart rate and causes more positive feelings than when not smiling. Those people who always seem to have a smile on their face have the right idea. They Give to Others We’ve established that money only buys happiness up to a certain point. Giving, rather than buying, is a surefire way to feel better. Most people say they would be happier with a free $20 in their pocket rather than $5. That’s not surprising. People also say they’d prefer to spend the money on themselves rather than someone else. That’s also not surprising. However, in a University of British Columbia psychology study, researchers gave students either $5 or $20. The experimental group was told to use the money to buy a gift or donate to charity. In the end, students who did that were happier than those who spent the money on themselves. Altruism, as many people have suspected, is a great way to find satisfaction whether you’re donating vast amounts or just lending a helping hand. They Express Gratitude The words “thank you” are more than just good manners. Saying thanks to someone and being grateful reduces stress and improves relationships. Showing appreciation also has an effect on the person you’re thanking, so pass it on to others.   They Unplug From the Internet Browsing through social media is a favorite pastime on the Internet, but there is a downside when it comes to regularly checking up on your friends. With everyone attempting to portray their own lives as being satisfying and interesting, people who use sites like Facebook often tend to be sadder. A University of Michigan study reported that, rather than enhancing well-being, as frequent interactions with supportive offline social networks powerfully do, the current findings demonstrate that interacting with Facebook may predict the opposite result for young adults â€" it may undermine it. They also found that the more a person used the site, the less satisfied with their own life they became. This is part of the reason why truly happy people don’t let themselves be affected by others and don’t seek validation online. They Listen to and Learn From Others When trying to predict how something will turn out, such as a date or a job interview, people draw from their own experiences to make an educated guess. That’s a useful tool, but research from Harvard University shows that learning from someone else’s experience is usually more accurate. “You are better off knowing how much someone else enjoyed it than knowing anything about the experience itself,” said Daniel Gilbert, the study’s author. “Rather than closing our eyes and imagining the future, we should examine the experience of those who have been there.” They’re Quick to Forgive It’s human to hold grudges. Forgiving someone when they’ve wronged you is difficult, and many people tend to hang on to anger or resentment. However, people who forgive others enjoy a number of benefits for their generosity. Different research has found that people who forgive tend to have more friends, better self-esteem and fewer health issues. Keep that in mind the next time you’re considering forgiveness. They Value Experiences Everyone likes owning nice things, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but that warm fuzzy feeling from a new purchase quickly fades. What truly lasts are the memories and satisfaction from an interesting experience, such as a vacation or making new friends. That happiness from a big new purchase only lasts about six to eight weeks, according to a San Francisco State University study. The feeling people liked the most, according to Professor Ryan Howell, was “feeling truly alive.” As he said, buying a new computer isn’t going to give anyone that feeling, but having a great experience will. They’re Positive Being told to “think positive” sometimes sounds like meaningless new age words, but happy people know there is power of positivity. Over time, according to a study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, positive thoughts can build up and accumulate. These positive thoughts and feelings come together to make lasting improvements in a person’s life, such as greater health and greater feelings of purpose and mindfulness. The downside is that getting to the point of positivity isn’t easy, as positive feelings tend to come and go quicker than negative emotions. They Stay Active Avoiding a sedentary lifestyle when working long hours can be trying. It’s worth making some time to get in some exercise, though, as working out regularly leads to greater long-term happiness. Those who don’t exercise are twice as likely to be unhappy, according to a study in the American Journal of Epidemiology. Getting active doesn’t have to be time intensive. It can be simply walking, swimming or playing a sport with friends. It can feel like a chore at times, so it’s important to find an activity that’s fun. They Take Risks When it comes to finding happiness, you can’t sit back and expect good things to happen. Taking risks and getting out of your comfort zone is one way to feel better. Researchers in Germany surveyed 20,000 people and found that the people who take more risks had higher satisfaction in their lives. The study also found that people are less likely to take risks as they get older, but don’t let that stop you from finding your happiness.   They Set Goals Parents love to hammer the idea of setting goals into their kids’ heads, and it turns out these parents actually know what they’re talking about â€" although setting goals is just the first step. In order to really see benefits, these goals can’t only be written down and left alone. Accountability is what really helps. A study by Dominican University found that participants who not only set some goals for themselves but also sent weekly progress reports to a friend were able to accomplish more than the people who wrote down their goals and only kept it to themselves. This shows the importance of strong social networks and meaningful relationships as a way to build happiness. Here’s a PDF of the study’s results.   They Find Balance To see how much humanity has changed in the past 80 years, just look at the things that make us happy. A survey conducted in a small British town in 1938 found that knowledge, security and religion were the three most important things that led to happiness. Today, in the same town, only security remained the same. Leisure and good humor filled up the other two spots. When you think about it, leisure being part of the list in this day and age makes a lot of sense. In the late 1930s, backbreaking work with little off time was the norm. Today, work may have gotten less physically demanding, and vacation time may have increased, but many people are still working long hours with little time for themselves. As happy people know, it’s all about finding the right balance of work and play.   They Get Enough Sleep There’s a connection between a good night’s sleep and being happy. Also, external events that affect someone’s happiness leads to a drop in the quality of sleep. That’s what researchers at Cornell University discovered after interviewing middle-aged participants in a study. The happiest people received the best sleep, but even the most positive people could be adversely affected by events. Good sleep has also been linked to limiting the effects of aging and improving overall health. A little beauty rest can really go a long way! Happiness can be elusive, but it’s not impossible to achieve. By figuring out what works to make yourself happy, life often becomes much better. What else makes you happy? Share in the comments!
